Euthanasia in Shelters increased by 25%!

This article can be applied to any shelter in the United States and not just Chicago.

It's my personal opinion that many new pet owners don't think through the pros and cons of adopting a pet. The pandemic is a way different situation. No one saw it coming. Unfortunately, it's the pet that suffers. One of the ways to help this growing problem with euthanasia is to foster. Usually the shelter pays for everything. You supply the love and the home. It's much better than have the animals in a loud shelter. It's scary for them. They didn't ask to be there. The point I'm trying to make is if you can't commit to caring for a pet until the rest of their lives, then adopting may not be the right choice. It's just not the pandemic that brought all these pets into the shelter. There are too many reasons to list here. I suggest new pet owners research on what it takes to own a pet and ask, ask, ask questions. Many rescues or shelters and even the website can guide you through this process. They are here to save a life. It all begins with you!
