The numbers are real.

I was reading a post the other day which made my heart sink. A county shelter reported how many animals were euthanized to date. The number was around 270. I'm not disclosing which shelter as I'm trying to make a point. Adopting and Fostering saves lives.

A big issue right now is "dumping" pets. It's exactly what it says. The owner(s) will dump their pet in an isolated location and flee. If the pet is fortunate, someone will find them and take them to the rescue or shelter. We had a situation here where a dog was tied to a garbage can and with two cats. The owner(s) removed their license plates so they wouldn't be reported. My reason for posting this is that fosters and adopters are greatly needed. Just not in my State, however, everywhere. Here are some ways you can help:

  1. Volunteer at a shelter or rescue. You may find your next furry friend!
  2. Apply for a position at a shelter or rescue. I'm sure they could use the help.
  3. Foster or Adopt
  4. If a family member or loved one can't provide for their pet(s), offer to take in the pet. Try and find other ways to keep the pet from going to a shelter. At some shelters when an animal is surrendered, the owner needs to sign a waiver stating their pet may be euthanized due to lack of space or kennel stress.

It takes a village to save a life. If you see someone abusing, mistreating, neglecting or dumping animals, report it ASAP.
