While I was running Paulie's Facebook Community page back in November of 2014, taking any picture or video of him was a challenge. He would put his face down or run out of the room. I tried just about everything to take a spur of the moment, candid shot. Hiding around corners or keeping the phone behind my back until the time was right. Well, Paulie was always a step ahead of me and that snapshot never happened.
Back in the Fall of 2014, I purchased these little pumpkins like I did years before. I didn't have to worry about them and when they were starting to go bad, I would toss them out on the hillside for the chipmunks or squirrels. Paulie saw me take this out of the bag and was staring at it. He was curious about this little gourd so I let him sniff and check it out. It was a sunny day, so I placed the gourd down on the mat by the side patio. At first, he kept a distance wondering what it was going to do. I knelt down beside Paulie and reassured him everything was going to be ok. A few licks on my hand then I motioned for Paulie to sit behind the pumpkin. It took a few tries, however, I was quick with the phone and snapped the picture.
Paulie had this perplex look on his face. I think he was proud of his first pumpkin and I'm so glad he allowed me to capture this moment. It's priceless.
