The followers from Paulie's social media page encouraged me to write the children's book after they saw the poem. That was placed on the back burner because of Paulie's failing health in early 2021. After his passing, I took two years off to mourn my little man.
In 2023, it became apparent that there was a “petdemic” with pets filling up rescues and shelters. That gave me an idea. Write about a book on a true story so the young readers can learn more about what the pets encounter at the shelters and rescue. For the guardians, include a reference sheet based on the story line to help solve that problem in real life. So, for my first book, I offer suggestions on how to prevent pets from being a stray. I’m hoping when the young reader reads my book that they will want to help out volunteering at a shelter or rescue or become a pet advocate to teach others on how to keep their pets safe. The book is to generate questions and when I’m out visiting the guardians and their young readers, I will engage them so questions are asked. Maybe this will help keep the pets out of the shelters and rescues and find them their forever homes.
