Why I wrote my children's book

I had no intentions of writing a children's book.

The social media page that I started the day after Paulie's adoption was the beginning of an incredible journey. It was suppose to be a fun project by journaling a senior dogs life with us then it turned into something else. The followers on his page adorned him. I had written a poem about Paulie's adoption journey and it was suggested that I write a children's book. It was an idea that I decided to jump upon a few years after Paulie passed. It was going to be a tribute to this little dog that made such an impact to others and to the senior shelter dogs. It wasn't until after the manuscript was finished and I was working with a publisher that a simple book turned into an education tool for pet parents.

During this time, I was working with a group of concerned pet parents in trying to keep high risk dogs from being euthanized. We would contact other rescues to see if they could pull these dogs out of the shelter to save them. There was an influx of stray dogs coming in every day. The reason why they were there were simple fixes. Either the owners weren't educated on how to prevent them from running away or the dogs were dumped for whatever reason. After speaking with my publisher, I decided to add suggestions on how to prevent pets from becoming a stray. Two full pages were added and some will surprise you. I learned these from being a volunteer at shelters and rescues and have used them on my own pets for years. Fortunately, I never dealt with a lost pet because of implementing these suggestions.

My mission is to educate pet owners on the tools that I have learned on keeping pets safe at home. I hope you will consider gifting or purchasing a copy of my book. It could save a pet from ending up as a stray. Thank you!
